Apostille

An apostille is a specific form of certification. An apostille certifies the authenticity of the document in question.

It is required in order to use a foreign document in Germany. Its purpose is to simplify legal dealings between countries.

Apostilles are only used between countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention. This includes Germany and Romania.

To obtain an apostille, the original document must be submitted, and ideally a certified translation as well.

Applications are usually made in writing and are subject to a fee.

The jurisdiction of the relevant authority is set out in the relevant documents.
